Corona Woes: Over 40% Students Skip JEE Main 2020 Entrance Exam On Day 1 In Lucknow, Ludhiana

Around 8.67 lakh candidates registered for the entrance exam which started from September 1, 2020 and would continue till September 6, 2020 across India at different time slots.

Lucknow: Despite strict enforcement of the COVID-19 protocols, several students skipped the Joint Entrance Examination 2020 (JEE Main 2020) in several states. According to the figures provided by the Government of India, around 8.67 lakh candidates registered for the entrance exam which started from September 1, 2020 and would continue till September 6, 2020 across India at different time slots. However, more than 40 per cent aspirants did not appear on Day 1 in Lucknow. ALSO READ | JEE 2020 Exam: How Exam Amid Pandemic Poses Challenge For Both Students & Govt According to a Times of India report, 44 per cent candidates skipped the Joint Entrance Examination (Main) for admission to Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) in the Lucknow city. Though the test was held at three centers in two shifts with strict COVID-19 measures in place, only 597 out of 1065 candidates from various districts of Uttar Pradsh appeared for the entrance exam at the Lucknow centre. As many as 469 preferred to drop out on Day 1 of the exam. In Ludhiana, as many as 178 out of the 388 candidates who registered for the JEE Main, appeared in two shifts on the Day 1 of the entrance test. As per the records, a total of 388 students were supposed to appear in the exam but only 45.87 per cent attempted the test. As per the information, as many a 13,995 candidates have registered for the JEE Main Exams in the state which are being conducted across nine different centres at different time slots to avoid the over large gatherings. In Odisha, as many as 3,600 students appeared for the JEE Main 2020 examination in 26 different centres spread across seven cities in the state. Though lakhs of students, parents and politicians protested demanding postponement of exams due to the continuous increase in the number of Coronavirus cases in the country, the government of India had confirmed that there will be no further delay in the exams. Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' on Sunday assured students and parents that the Education Ministry is fully prepared for safe conduct of both these exams and is committed to ensuring the safety of the students.
