CBSE, ICSE, JEE, NEET & ICAI CA Exams: As the cases of coronavirus steadily increases in the country there has been rising concern for student safety during several major upcoming examinations. While some exams such as the CBSE and ICSE Board exams have been cancelled, many students are waiting for a similar decision for other exams.

Here is an update about some of the upcoming exams.

NEET 2020- Students and parents are demanding the cancellation of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2020 exams due to rising coronavirus cases. Students have taken to social media and according to media reports parents have written to the Health Ministry raising their concerns. There has been no official announcement regarding the matter. NEET 2020 is scheduled to be held on July 26th.

JEE Mains 2020- The National Testing Agency or NTA is likely to release the admit cards for upcoming Joint Entrance Exams (JEE) exams in the coming week. According to the notification by the NTA to announce the new exam dates, the admit cards will be ‘released 15 days before the commencement of exams. Students have been requesting for the cancellation of exams due to the rise of coronavirus cases in India, but the NTA has yet to give an official statement. The National Testing Agency or NTA in March decided to postpone the Joint Entrance Exams from April 2020 to July 2020. The new dates of the exams are July 18 to July 23, 2020, in the notice issued on 22 May 2020.

ICAI CA exams 2020- The Supreme Court on Thursday is set to hear the matter regarding the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) exams scheduled from July 29-August 16. In a hearing held on June 29, Monday, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) had been asked by the Supreme Court to extend its ‘opt-out’ facility to include all students irrespective of whether they selected the option earlier or not for the upcoming exams. The apex court directed the ICAI to allow students to opt-out of the exams scheduled from July 29-August 16 due to rising coronavirus cases. The ICAI had earlier stated that those who miss the round of examinations in July will be allowed to appear in the next round held in November 2020.

CBSE and ICSE exams 2020- After much debate, the CBSE decided to cancel the pending board exams due to the rising COVID-19 cases. The Board announced the decision on June 25 after the Supreme Court took up petitions filed by parents who were worried about the safety of the students. The Board decided to cancel Class 10 exams altogether, but Class 12 students can opt to appear for the board exams. These exams will be conducted when the conditions are conducive. The CBSE came up with a new scheme for marking according to which those students who have appeared in more than three exams will be marked on the basis of an average of the best of three subjects. While those who appeared in three papers will be marked on the best of two. Similarly, those students who appeared in less than 3 papers will be marked based on practical and internal assessment. The Indian Certificate of Secondary Education Board (ICSE) also cancelled the class 10 and 12 exams and results will be declared based on assessment. While initially, the Board had announced that there will be no option for students to give exams later, they have told the Supreme Court that they may consider giving the option to write an exam at a later stage to class 10 students.

National Testing Agency (NTA) has started the correction windows for JEE Main and NEET applications. Change of exam city and candidate particulars is now allowed till July 15.
