ICAI CA Exam 2020: The Supreme Court today is set to hear the matter regarding the chartered accountancy exam to begin from July 29. In an earlier hearing, the court had directed the ICAI to extend the opt-out facility to all students.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court is set to hear the matter regarding the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) exams scheduled from July 29-August 16. In a hearing held on June 29, Monday, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) had been asked by the Supreme Court to extend its ‘opt-out’ facility to include all students irrespective of whether they selected the option earlier or not for the upcoming exams. The apex court directed the ICAI to allow students to opt-out of the exams scheduled from July 29-August 16 due to rising coronavirus cases. The ICAI had earlier stated that those who miss the round of examinations in July will be allowed to appear in the next round held in November 2020. "This option should be kept open till the last week as the situation is not static. It is dynamic," noted the bench. ICAI on the other hand submitted that proper arrangements have been made to ensure the safety of students and that it will be difficult to change the 567 centres. The institute said that if a candidate sends an email saying he/she is unable to sit in the exam due to Covid-19, it will not be questioned. "It is a group of 4-4. They can choose to appear at a later date if they are Covid-19 affected," the ICAI counsel maintained. The General Secretary of the institute Rakesh Sehgal also told the court that they will extend the opt-out facility to students wherever the coronavirus situation deteriorates but will not be able to change the exam centres.
