ED Arrests Trinamool's Kuntal Ghosh In Teachers' Recruitment Scam

ED arrested Trinamool Congress youth leader Kuntal Ghosh in connection with the teacher's recruitment scam.

The Enforcement Directorate on Saturday arrested Trinamool Congress youth leader Kuntal Ghosh in connection with the teachers' recruitment scam, informed sources said. Banerjee is a youth leader from Hoogly and a part of the ruling dispensation in West Bengal.

The ED raided Ghosh's residence in connection with the alleged scam on Friday.

Ghosh is considered close to Shantanu Banerjee. Both Banerjee and Ghosh are youth leaders and have been accused of acting as middlemen in the case, confirmed sources.

"We have arrested Kuntal Ghosh this morning for not cooperating with our officers investigating his involvement in illegal appointments in teachers recruitment scam. We will produce him at a city court today," the officer told PTI.

Several documents and a diary were also seized from Ghosh's twin flats during the search operations by the ED which started on Friday morning, he added.

Reacting to the arrest, BJP MP Raju Bista tweeted, ''#TMC Youth leader #KuntalGhosh was arrested by the #ED in connection with the Teacher’s recruitment scam. ED has said, he collected ₹19 crore from 325 candidates. If a small fish like him is collecting so much, imagine the extent of ghotala done by TMC big fishes?''

Former West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee and his aide Arpita Mukherjee are facing a probe into the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) recruitment scam.

Last year, the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) filed a prosecution complaint against eight accused including Partha Chatterjee and Arpita Mukherjee in the Teachers' Recruitment Scam in West Bengal before the PMLA Special Court, Kolkata.
