Cyclone Biparjoy: Schools and Colleges In Banaskantha District To Be Closed On June 16 And 17

Considering the impact and possible damages by Cyclone Biparjoy, the Banaskantha District Administration has directed schools and colleges in the district to be closed on June 16 and 17.

In the wake of cyclone Biparjoy and its possible impact, the Banaskantha District Administration in Gujarat has decided to close schools and colleges in the District on June 16 and 17. Notably, the move from the Banaskantha District Administration comes following the track of the Cyclone Biparjoy and subsequent alerts by the meteorological department. The cyclone is expected to make landfall near Gujarat's Jakhau port, today evening. Befofe the cyclone's expected landfall, there have been heavy rain lashes being reported in Gujarat's Aravalli. 

To mitigate the aeffect and possible devastation caused caused by the cylone, and to ensure zero loss of life, the Gujarat government, NDRF, and the Indian Coast Guard have been gearing up strong. Over 47,000 people in Kutchh have already been shifted to shelter homes. By far, the Gujarat government along with the releif forces has shifted over 94,000 people living around the coastal areas to temporary shelters who are at a higher risk from the cyclone landfall.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the very severe cyclonic storm Biparjoy is anticipated to make landfall on the coasts of Saurashtra, Kutch, and adjoining areas of Pakistan at 6 PM in the evening today. Of the 94,427 persons evacuated so far, nearly 46,800 were evacuated in Kutch district, followed by 10,749 in Devbhumi Dwarka, 9,942 in Jamnagar, 9,243 in Morbi, 6,822 in Rajkot, 4,864 in Junagadh, 4,379 in Porbandar and 1,605 in Gir Somnath district, a Gujarat government release said. The cyclone It is likely to cross Saurashtra and Kutch regions and adjoining Pakistan Coasts.

In the meantime, pertaining to the cyclone's landfall, thr Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warning for Saurashtra and Kutch Coasts as:  VSCS (very severe cyclonic storm) Biparjoy to cross near Jakhau Port (Gujarat) by tonight. In the wake of Biparjoy landfall and impact, 15 Coast Guard Ships, 7 Aircrafts have been kept On standby In Daman.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is also presiding over a meeting on the last-minute preparations just ahead of Cyclone Biparjoy's landfall. Home Ministry officials and NDRF and other rescue and relief teams' chiefs are present at the meeting. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi are monitoring every development in the state.
