Karnataka Syllabus: Govt Approves Removal Of Lessons On RSS Founder KB Hedgewar

Besides removing Hedgewar from the syllabus, the Karnataka government has also made reading of the preamble of the constitution and hymn in schools and colleges compulsory.

The new Karnataka government has dropped K.B Hedgewar from the syllabus. Besides dropping Hedgewar, the state government has also decided to make the reading of the preamble of the constitution and hymn in schools and colleges compulsory. Furthermore, the Karnataka government has also decided to amend the APMC Act in the state to bring back the older laws. The fresh move from the state government comes in a bid to revise changes made by the previous BJP government.

"Syllabus on K. B. Hedgewar has been dropped...whatever changes they (previous govt) have done last year, we have changed it and reintroduced whatever was there last to last year," Karnataka Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa said. The latest developments come in from the Karnataka government's cabinet meeting today. In the meeting, the state government also discussed revision of textbooks.

Notably, the newly formed Congress government in Karnataka has been trying to minimize the footprints of the previous BJP government, and had been mulling revisions of syllabus and textbooks in the state. In a war of words last week, Karnataka Primary and Secondary Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa said that the BJP government tried to infuse its "corrupt" mindset into the system of studies. He further underlined that the changes that are to be brought under the in school textbooks would be in the larger interest of students, and won't be pro-Congress, or anti-BJP.

the Karnataka education minister made the above remarks following his previous announcement of revision of school textbooks this year and the matter will be placed before the Cabinet to seek its consent."BJP never understood children's mentality and what they are supposed to give to children. BJP is so corrupt in its mind that it wants to infuse it into the system of studies which we are against. We are not doing anything connected to Congress or anything against BJP. I have been saying from the first day, I have a job that is in the interest of children," Madhu Bangarappa told news agency ANI.

Notably, the Congress party promised in its Karnataka assembly elections manifesto to undo the changes made to school textbooks when the BJP was in power and had also promised to scrap the National Education Policy (NEP).
