The lockdown is a necessary measure to curb the spread of the virus. The shutdown was meant to be till March 31, but it has now been extended till April 15. As children are the most vulnerable along with the elderly to contract COVID-19 when this action was taken the first of the places to shut down were schools. Not only are school out, but children can’t even indulge in out of home activities or have any social interaction. This puts a lot of burden on parents to make sure that their children don’t get behind in their studies. Here are some tips that can help you keep your children entertained and study.
Keeping a time table – One of the ways to make sure your children don’t fall out of a schedule is by creating a home time table. It’s important that to have a routine so that they don’t have a tough time getting back to the swing of things when the lockdown is over and they have to go back to school. The time table can include different subjects, have lots of time slots for fun interactive activities and rest time. Based on the age & interests of your child you can design this time table, have them help you out so that they know they selected most of what is on their time table.
Learning App – Thanks to the internet and various apps, children no longer have to depend on tuitions to get a bit of extra help. Learning apps like Byju’s, TedEd@Home, Vedantu Learn Live Online include the current school curriculum that will help your children learn their syllabus.
Have them help around the house – This time can be utilized in involving them in household chores and cultivating good habits that will help them become better human beings. Small chores like tidying their desk or cleaning the dishes can really help them understand being independent and good behaviour.
Online Activities – Book publishing like Penguin has started a month-long digital summer camp in which its authors will curate talks, masterclasses, read-aloud sessions and do-it-yourself activities. With no out-of-home activities relying on such a medium is a great help. It’s entertaining and they get useful screen time.
Books – Speaking of screen time, it is also important to limit the time they spend gawking at the screen. It’s time to turn their attention to physical books, it can be a good way to cultivate the habit of reading and work on their attention. Screentime and social media have reduced children’s attention span a recent study showed. It’s time to hit the books!
The lockdown is a scary time, especially for children who are now suddenly out of their schedule and things seem less than normal. As parents who are also busy working remotely, you may have to look for new ways to keep your children engaged while distracting them from the pandemic.
