Madhya Pradesh's ACC Higher Secondary School Turns 100. Day-Long Centennial Celebrations On Dec 29

The establishment of ACC Higher Secondary School dates back to pre-independence days when the leaders of CP Portland Cement Limited set up the educational institution in Kymore.

The ACC Higher Secondary School in Madhya Pradesh’s Keymore has turned 100 this year and the school authorities have arranged a series of programs to mark the grand occasion on December 29. The day-long programme will witness events, including a documentary movie portraying the 100-year journey of the prestigious institution, release of souvenirs, cultural programmes by alumni, among others.

The establishment of the school dates back to the pre-independence days when the leaders of CP Portland Cement Limited set up the educational institution in the small village of Kymore, approximately 100 kms northeast of Jabalpur in Central Province District, in 1923.

Initially, private examinations were conducted for the students and teaching began in factory quarters. The school with two rooms underwent its first inspection by the District Inspector of Jabalpur, GR Bhatia in 1927, thereby, marking the beginning of regular classes. In the same year, under the leadership of Gauri Shankar Pandey (headmaster from 1923-1943), the school expanded its operations, and in 1937, three additional rooms were constructed.

In 1947-48, a branch of Kymore Cement Factory School was started in Mehgaon village under the name United Cement Primary School Mehgaon. In 1960-61, the school was renamed as ACC Primary School, Mehgaon.

Over the years, the leadership changed hands, and VK Karmarkar assumed the role of headmaster in 1970. HS Yadav took the charge as Principal in 1984 and it was during his tenure from 1984-1996, a significant expansion of the school occurred. Three rooms in the eastern part and a large hall in the central area were constructed.

Over the last 100 years, the school has enrolled 17,490 students and has nurtured outstanding individuals like the youngest freedom fighter (aged 10 years) Mahesh Shrivastava, Retired Lieutenant Colonel Tukaram Yadav, Sanjay Mishra, the Secretary of Badminton Association of India, Megha Bhatt, a Scientist contributing to space missions, including Chandrayaan-2 and Chandrayaan-3, Karuna Verma, an esteemed scientist and academician retired as Former Dean and Executive Councilor at Rani Durgavati University, Anil Kumar Shukla who worked as Chief Geologist at Coal India Ltd and retired as Vice-President at the ESSAR Corporate House, among others.
