'Ample Evidence Against Arvind Kejriwal': ED Opposes Delhi CM's Bail Plea, Next Hearing On June 14

The Enforcement Directorate asserted that it has "ample evidence" to establish a link between Delhi CM Kejriwal to "grave" economic offences.

After the Enforcement Directorate (ED) opposed, a Delhi Court on Friday rescheduled the hearing to June 14 for Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's bail plea in the excise policy case. Senior advocate Hariharan, representing Kejriwal, informed the Rouse Avenue Court today that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) submitted its response to the bail plea right before the hearing.

It is to be noted that the Rouse Avenue court will be on a summer break from June 8 through the end of the month. He requested the court to list the hearing for next week before a vacation judge.

Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Raju Ramachandran stated that he would not be available next week and suggested listing the case for the week after.

ED's Has 'Ample Evidence' Against Delhi CM

The Enforcement Directorate asserted that it has "ample evidence" to establish a link between Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to "grave" economic offences committed in a money laundering case related to the alleged excise scam. It opposed his application for regular bail.

The ED claimed, "There is ample evidence on record to link the applicant to the commission of the offence of money laundering, and his release on bail would adversely affect further investigation to unearth the deep-rooted multi-layered conspiracy".

"He is involved in grave economic offences," it alleged.

On Sunday, the court had sent Kejriwal to judicial custody in the case.

The judge had passed the order after he was produced before the court through video conference after surrendering before Tihar Central Jail authorities.

The judge passed the order on an application filed by ED on May 20, when Kejriwal was out on interim bail granted to him by the Supreme Court.

On June 5, the court dismissed the AAP national convenor's plea seeking interim bail on medical grounds.

Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the central probing agency in late March after he failed to comply with nine summons to appear for questioning regarding the alleged excise case.
