Delhi Hits Record Peak Power Demand Of 8000 MW, Highest In The History Of The National Capital

Wednesday marked the fourth consecutive day that Delhi's peak power demand exceeded 7,000 MW, indicating a sustained strain on the city's energy infrastructure. 

New Delhi: Delhi reached a record peak power demand of 8,000 MW, marking the highest ever recorded in the national capital's history at 3.42 pm on Wednesday. This surge shattered the record set the night before, when the demand peaked at 7,726 MW, ANI reported.

A relentless heatwave persists in Delhi, driving its power demand to unprecedented levels. According to State Load Despatch Centre (SLDC) data, at 3.33 pm on Tuesday, the peak power demand in Delhi reached a staggering 7,717 MW, marking the highest ever recorded in the history of the national capital until Wednesday's fresh record. The previous record was observed on June 29, 2022, when demand hit 7,695 MW.

Delhi's Power Demand Peaks

On Monday, the SLDC reported a peak demand of 7557 MW at 3.33 pm, the highest for the month of May.

With temperatures consistently exceeding 40 degrees Celsius, New Delhi residents are grappling with oppressive heat, resulting in a surge in energy consumption. Fans, air conditioners, and coolers are in heavy use as people endeavour to find respite from the sweltering conditions.
