Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, granted bail by the Supreme Court on Tuesday, refrains from commenting on his involvement in the Delhi excise policy case, as per the Rouse Avenue court's ruling on Wednesday. Following the Supreme Court's bail grant to Singh in the excise policy case, it delegated the task of determining bail conditions to the trial court.

Singh's legal team, along with his wife Anita, attended the court session on Wednesday.

Advocate Rishikesh Kumar, representing Singh, assured Special Judge Kaveri Baweja that the MP posed no flight risk. He clarified that apart from one bail condition, the trial court was responsible for setting the rest.

"Today the trial court has clarified the bail conditions. The first is Rs 2 lakh surety. Second, the court has said that you will have to submit your passport to the court. Third, he will not speak about his role in this case. Fourth, if he is travelling outside Delhi, he will have to share his schedule with the investigating officer... We hope he will be released today," he told ANI.

The court established the following conditions:

  • Surrendering of the accused's passport
  • Non-tampering with evidence
  • Cooperation with the investigation and provision of his phone number to the investigating officer

Previously, the court hinted at the possibility of a condition restricting Singh's movement outside the National Capital Region (NCR). In response, Singh's counsel argued that due to ongoing election campaigns, Singh might need to travel to various locations. Consequently, they requested a condition prohibiting international travel, which the judge approved.

In granting this permission, the judge stipulated that if Singh leaves the NCR, he must inform the investigating officer of his detailed itinerary and maintain his phone's location tracking at all times.

Singh was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on October 4, 2023, in connection with the Delhi excise policy case, and accused of involvement in an alleged illegal cash transaction of Rs 2 crore at his Delhi residence.
