BJP Bengal Unit Appoints 25 Organisational District Presidents: Details

The total number of organisational districts of BJP in West Bengal stand at 43, covering the 42 Lok Sabha constituencies and 294 Assembly constituencies in the entire state.

Kolkata: The West Bengal unit of BJP, on Friday, announced the list of 25 organisational district presidents in the state.

Of the 25 newly elected organisational district presidents, 15 are new faces.

Party insiders said that the names of the remaining 18 organisational district presidents will be announced soon and in all probability within the next couple of days.

The total number of organisational districts of BJP in West Bengal stand at 43, covering the 42 Lok Sabha constituencies and 294 Assembly constituencies in the entire state.

"Once the final and total list of organisational district presidents will be announced, it will follow the crucial announcement of the new state president of the party in West Bengal," said a state committee member of BJP in West Bengal.

The current state president of the BJP in West Bengal and the party Lok Sabha member Sukanta Majumdar is currently a Minister of State in the Union Cabinet.

Since BJP follows a policy of "one person, one post" polity, by that process the replacement of Majumdar as the party's state secretary in West Bengal is inevitable.

As per the list of 25 newly elected organisation district presidents issued by the party's state general secretary and legislator, Dipak Barman, who was the returning officer for the internal organisational polls, of the 25 organisational districts whose new president have been elected, six are from North Bengal and the remaining 19 are from South Bengal.

All eyes were on who would be the new faces for the two organisational districts of Tamluk and Kanthi, in East Midnapore district, the native district of the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari.

As per the new list, the organisational district presidents for both Tamluk and Kanthi have been changed.

In the case of Tamluk, the change was inevitable since its erstwhile organisational district president and the party MLA from Haldia Assembly constituency in the same district, Tapasi Mandal, had joined the Trinamool Congress this week only. She has been replaced by Malay Sinha, a thorough organisational man.
