Air India Flight AI171, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner carrying 242 people, including former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani, crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad on June 12.

The purported last photo of former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who was on the ill-fated Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner that crashed in Ahmedabad on Thursday, has emerged online. Rupani was going to London to meet his wife and daughter, who are in London. Vijay Rupani's wife, Anjali, was scheduled to return to India with him.
The photo, a selfie by another passenger, is going viral with the claim that it was clicked on the ill-fated Air India Plane. However, it could not be verified independently by ABP Live.
The precise cause of the Ahmedabad plane crash on June 12, 2025, remains under investigation, with DGCA authorities and technical teams from Boeing working to determine what led to the tragedy.
Air India Flight AI171, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, took off from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport at 1:39 pm IST, bound for London Gatwick. The flight had 242 people, including Rupani, onboard.

Within seconds, the aircraft issued a "Mayday" distress call, indicating a critical emergency, before losing contact with air traffic control. Radar data shows the plane climbed only about 625 feet before it began to descend rapidly and crashed just outside the airport perimeter, sending up a massive plume of black smoke.
Initial reports and eyewitness accounts suggest the aircraft struggled to gain altitude and veered sharply before crashing. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is leading the inquiry, with a focus on flight data recorders, maintenance logs, and pilot communications.
