A female pilgrim from Delhi was arrested at the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu and Kashmir after a loaded pistol with an expired license was found in her possession.

A woman pilgrim from Delhi was arrested on Tuesday after a loaded pistol was recovered from her possession at the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine atop Trikuta hills in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district, said the officials.
The woman, identified as Jyoti Gupta claimed to be a retired police constable. She was intercepted with the weapon and six rounds at a checkpoint near the 'Bhawan' (sanctum sanctorum) on the intervening night of March 14-15, they said, reported PTI.
According to the officials, the licence for the gun that was found in possession of Gupta was found to have expired a couple of years ago.
In an earlier statement, Reasi Senior Superintendent of Police Parminder Sigh said, " A woman reached Bhawan of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine with a pistol, breaching security checks. The incident took place on the intervening night of 14-15 March 2025. The woman was identified as Jyoti Gupta, said to be working in Delhi Police."
Later Singh clarified that the arrested woman does not work in Delhi police.
"The weapon had an expired licence. Reasi Police arrested the woman, and the weapon was seized," he said.
An FIR has been registered at Police Station Bhawan in Katra and case has been registered under Arms Act, the SSP said.
A similar incident occurred on Monday where a pilgrim from Uttar Pradesh, Sanjay Singh, was booked after two cartridges were found in his bag near the Bhawan on Monday, said the officials.
