Vadodara Car Accident Accused Had Brush With Law Last Month, Had Submitted Written Apology To Cops

Law student Rakshit Chaurasia, accused in the Karelibaug accident case, has a history of causing disturbances, including a prior confrontation with a lawyer.

Law student Rakshit Chaurasia, accused in the Karelibaug accident case, had a brush with the law last month as well but was let off with just a written apology at Sayajigunj police station after the victim pardoned him.

On February 19, a group of youths were causing a disturbance at an apartment complex in Fatehgunj. When a lawyer with an office in the same building asked them to calm down, they allegedly confronted and threatened him.

The lawyer called the police, and residents also intervened. The youths were taken to the police station, where they wrote an apology before being allowed to leave. No formal complaint was registered, and the matter was settled through a compromise recorded in the station diary, as per the report by NDTV.

Rakshit Chaurasia Behind Karelibaug Accident Case

Similarly, on March 13, Rakshit was behind the wheel of a car that crashed into three vehicles in the Karelibaug area of Vadodara, Gujarat, resulting in the death of a woman and injuries to seven others. A viral video captured him stepping out of the car, shouting incoherently, mentioning phrases like "another round," "Nikita," and "Om Namah Shivay."

Eyewitnesses alleged he was intoxicated. While Rakshit has been arrested, police are searching for his co-passenger, Pranshu Chouhan. As a law student at MS University, he now faces charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Authorities are also investigating whether he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.

Reacting to the media, Rakshit claimed that he was not intoxicated while driving. "We were going ahead of a scooter, we were turning right and there was a pothole. The car touched the other vehicle and the airbag opened. Our vision was hampered and the car went out of control," he told news agency ANI.

He claimed that he was driving at 50 km/h and was not drunk while driving. Rakshit also added that he had gone to attend a Holika Dahan event, was not returning from any party. "I was told that one woman has died and a few have sustained injuries. I want to meet the family of the victims, it is my fault," he further added. Rakshit, who is a student of law, belongs to Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh.

A crash has sent shockwaves through Vadodara, garnering widespread national attention. In response, Police Commissioner Narasimha Komar has deployed multiple investigation teams to probe the incident.

"Three other vehicles are involved in the incident. Multiple investigative teams are investigating the incident. They are recovering the evidence from the crime scene. Police are tracking the movement of the driver and co-passenger of the four-wheeler. Further investigation is underway," he said, NDTV reported.
