Uttarakhand: Aurangzebpur, Khanpur, Akbarpur Fazilpur Among 11 Places Renamed Across 4 Districts — Check List

In Dehradun district, Miyanwala will be renamed as Ramjiwala, Chandpur Khurd to Prithviraj Nagar, Pirwala to Kesari Nagar, and Abdullapur to Dakshnagar.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced on Monday to rename 11 places in Dehradun, Haridwar, Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar districts. All 11 places will be renamed after the Hindu deities, mythological characters, icons, and prominent BJP and RSS figures.

"The names of various places are being changed in accordance with public sentiment and Indian culture and heritage. They are being named after great men who contributed to the Indian culture and its preservation," Dhami said, news agency PTI reported.

The CM announced that Aurangzebpur in Haridwar will be changed to Shivaji Nagar, Gajiwali will be renamed as Arya Nagar, Chandpur to Jyotiba Phule Nagar, Mohammadpur Jat to Mohanpur Jat, Khanpur Kursali to Ambedkar Nagar, Khanpur to Shri Krishnapur, Idrishpur to Nandpur, and Akbarpur Fajalpur to Vijaynagar.

In the Dehradun district of the state, Miyanwala will be renamed as Ramjiwala, Chandpur Khurd to Prithviraj Nagar, Pirwala to Kesari Nagar, and Abdullapur to Dakshnagar.

Similarly, Nawabi Road in Nainital district will be changed to Atal Marg, and Panchakki-ITI Marg will be renamed as Guru Golwalkar Marg. And, Sultanpur Patti in Udham Singh Nagar district will be renamed as Kaushalyapuri.

Renaming Aligns With Public Sentiment: CM

While announcing the decision, CM Dhami stated that the renaming aligns with public sentiment as well as India's cultural and historical heritage. The initiative seeks to honor eminent figures who have played a significant role in preserving Indian culture, aiming to inspire people, according to ANI.

This comes after more than 100 people fell ill and were hospitalised due to suspected food poisoning after consuming adulterated 'kuttu' (buckwheat) flour in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, an official stated on Monday.

Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Singh updated that among those, 66 people were rushed to Coronation Hospital and 44 to Doon Medical College and Hospital, according to a report by PTI.

Further, he noted that the health of a few individuals deteriorated on Sunday night, whereas other individuals were rushed to the hospital on Monday morning. However, Singh assured that the condition of all those patients is stable now, and nothing to worry about it.
