Uttarakhand: Bus Carrying Wedding Guests Plunges Into 200-Foot-Deep Gorge; 30 Feared Dead

On receiving information about the accident, Uttarakhand Assembly Speaker Ritu Khanduri reached the spot but she had to face the anger of the villagers.

A major accident took place in Uttarakhand's Pauri district, where a bus carrying a wedding procession fell into a 200-foot-deep gorge on Friday night. Around 25 to 30 people are feared dead on the spot. However, no official information has been received about the death toll yet. The bus was going from Laldhang in Haridwar to Bironkhal village in Pauri. On receiving information about the incident, Uttarakhand Assembly Speaker Ritu Khanduri reached the spot but she had to face the anger of the villagers.

The accident happened around 8 pm near Simandi village when the bus driver lost control and it fell straight into a deep gorge. There were 40-50 wedding guests on the bus.

Accident Took Place Near Bride's House

The accident happened at a distance of two km from the bride's house. The guests on the bus started screaming to save their lives, following which people from nearby areas gathered at the spot.

As soon as the information about the incident was received, the local police and SDRF team reached the spot, after which the rescue operation started. Police from nearby police stations were also called for the rescue operation that started with the help of torches and mobile phones.

The injured in the accident were taken to the hospital and police have begun further legal action.
