‘Poisoned, Strangled, Hung’: Woman, Lover Held For Husband’s Murder In Bareilly, Say Police

The incident took place on April 13 when the body of Kehr Singh was discovered hanging in a rented room with the door locked from inside.

A 25-year-old woman and her partner have been arrested for allegedly poisoning and strangulating her husband before hanging his body with a rope to stage it as a suicide in the Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh, police said on Friday.

Officials stated that the incident took place on April 13 when the body of Kehr Singh was discovered hanging in a rented room with the door locked from inside. Although it initially appeared to be a suicide, the post-mortem report later confirmed that the cause of death was strangulation, they added.

"The post-mortem report clearly indicates death by strangulation, though the closed room suggested a suicide. We are investigating all possible angles and have taken both named accused, Rekha and her lover Pintu (25), into custody, Additional Superintendent of Police (North) Mukesh Chandra Mishra said, PTI reported.

After the couple was taken into custody, they were sent for a medical examination on Friday.

Kehr Singh was employed as a contractual sanitation worker with the Fatehganj Paschimi Nagar Panchayat in Bareilly.

"Suspecting poisoning, we have also preserved the victim's viscera for forensic testing. During questioning, Rekha initially avoided direct answers but later confessed to mixing poison in her husband's food. However, she denied strangling him or hanging the body, claiming her husband might have locked the room and taken his own life, "Mishra added.

    Affairs And Murder Plot

Police stated that they are currently awaiting the viscera report to confirm whether poisoning was involved.

In the meantime, a murder case has been filed against Rekha and Pintu at the Fatehganj Paschimi police station, following a complaint lodged by the victim’s brother, Ashok. According to Ashok, his brother had discovered Rekha’s alleged affair with Pintu, prompting the two to plot his murder.

"They first gave him poison. When he became unconscious, they strangled him with a rope and then used the same rope to hang his body from the ceiling to make it look like suicide," the FIR stated.

The investigation remains ongoing, and police said further steps will be taken after forensic reports and witness statement, police further added.
