After Sister's Death In Daal Pot 2 Years Ago, UP Toddler Falls Into Boiling Chhole And Dies
18-month-old girl dies after falling into boiling pot at home in UP’s Sonbhadra. Family mourns second such tragedy after elder daughter’s similar death two years ago.

In a heart-wrenching tragedy, an 18-month-old girl died on Saturday night from severe burn injuries after accidentally falling into a pot of boiling chickpeas at her home in the Duddhi area of Sonbhadra district.
The child, Priya, was playing near the kitchen when the incident occurred on Friday. Her mother, who was preparing chickpeas for golgappas—a popular street food—had briefly stepped into another room. In those few moments, Priya fell into the steaming vessel. Her cries alerted her mother, who rushed in and pulled her out immediately.
Despite being taken to a nearby hospital and later referred to the district hospital due to the severity of her injuries, the toddler succumbed to her burns the following evening.
In a cruel twist of fate, this isn’t the first tragedy to hit the family. Just two years ago, Priya’s elder sister also died in a similar accident—falling into a pot of boiling lentils while food was being prepared at home.
The family, still reeling from the earlier loss, cremated Priya without initially informing the authorities. However, police arrived at the scene after learning about the incident. Duddhi Circle Officer Rajesh Kumar Rai confirmed the child’s death was accidental after speaking with the grieving parents.
Shailendra, the children's father and a local chaat vendor, shared the devastating details with officials. He recounted how his wife had only left the room for a brief moment—something that now weighs heavily on them both.
This tragic case underscores the hidden dangers that can lurk in even the most ordinary household routines. How many such silent risks go unnoticed until it’s too late? For families like Shailendra’s, the cost has been unimaginably high.
