UP Man Kills His 4 Children After Argument With Wife, Then Hangs Self From Her Saree

A man from Uttar Pradesh's Shahjahanpur killed his four children by slitting their throats with a sharp weapon and then hanged himself to death using his wife's saree as a noose. All the five bodies were recovered from one room on Thursday morning.

Police officials reached the spot shortly after being informed about the deaths and have initiated an investigation into the matter. According to the initial investigations, the man is said to be mentally ill. He reportedly got into an argument with his wife a day before on Wednesday, following which she had left the house, Times Of India reported.

Rajiv Katheria, a resident of Manpur Chachari village in the Roza police station area used to live with his wife, Kanti Devi, and their children Smriti (13 years), Kirti (9 years), Pragati (7 years), and Rishabh (5 years).

Police said that Kanti Devi went to her parental home in Kartoli village on Wednesday while Katheria was at home with his four children.

Neighbours Say Man Was Under Mental Stress 

On Thursday morning, Rajiv's father, Prithviraj, who lived next door, called his grandson for tea, but there was no response from inside. After calling for a long time without any answer, he peeked inside the house from a window.

The scene inside made him scream in horror. Thereafter, neighbours rushed to the house and informed the police.

"A man who was under mental stress because of a family dispute had killed his four children and later hanged himself to death. We have recovered the dead bodies and sent them for autopsy. We are speaking with the family members and taking necessary action," TOI quoted SSP Rajesh Dwivedi as saying.

A local resident, who doesn't wish to be named, said: "The throats of all four children were slit with a sharp weapon. Inside, Rajiv was hanging from a hook with a sari. Rajiv met with an accident a year ago and since then he used to remain mentally ill because of the injury."
