UP Man Arrested For Murdering 5-Year-Old Daughter For Visiting Neighbour, Chopping Body Into Pieces

A man in Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur has been arrested for allegedly killing his five-year-old daughter and dismembering her body. Police said the accused, identified as Mohit Mishra, was enraged because his daughter, Tani, visited a neighbour’s house despite his objections.  

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Pravin Ranjan Singh said the child was reported missing on 25 February. “We registered a case and formed four teams to locate her. During the search, we found a piece of her body. The next day, other parts were recovered. By then, it was evident that she had been murdered,” he told the media, as quoted by NDTV.  

As the investigation progressed, police questioned multiple individuals. Officers grew suspicious when Mohit went missing. “He handed his phone to his wife and disappeared. We asked family members about events leading up to his disappearance. When he resurfaced, he was interrogated and eventually confessed to the crime,” Singh said, as per NDTV’s report.  

Child Strangled And Body Dismembered, Police Suspect Accomplice

According to police, Mohit was once close to his neighbour, Ramu, but a dispute had strained their relationship. Despite repeated warnings, Tani continued to visit Ramu’s house. On the day of the incident, Mohit allegedly saw her returning from there, which infuriated him. “He took her on his bike to a deserted area and choked her to death using her clothes. He then disposed of the body in a mustard field,” Singh said.  

Earlier, Dainik Jagran reported that police recovered the child’s dismembered torso and a severed leg from fields. However, her stomach portion remained missing. A drone and dog squad were deployed to locate the remaining body parts.  

Tani was last seen playing outside her house in Bahadurganj village, Rampur Mathura police station limits, before she went missing. On 28 February, police recovered her severed leg in a mustard field, about 100 metres away from a recovered jawbone. The next day, they intensified their search, recovering her torso 700 metres from her house and another leg nearby. The body was found unclothed.  

Mohit disappeared on 2 March, prompting his brother, Ashish, to file a missing person complaint. Police tracked him down at the Sitapur court premises the next day, where he was allegedly consulting a lawyer, Dainik Jagran reported.  

Upon being taken into custody, Mohit was interrogated for 23 hours, after which he admitted to strangling his daughter.  

“My daughter Tani went to Ramu’s house despite my warning, which made me angry. I took her on my bike to a field, strangled her with her own T-shirt, and left her body there. I returned home but later thought of taking her to the hospital. When I reached the field, she had stopped breathing,” Mohit reportedly told police, as per Dainik Jagran’s report.  

Mohit had himself filed a missing person report for his daughter in an attempt to mislead investigators. Officers suspect he may not have acted alone, as they are still probing how the body was mutilated. The Special Operations Group (SOG) has searched multiple houses in the village but has yet to find conclusive evidence regarding the dismemberment.  

Neighbours' Dispute Over Alleged Affair

Dainik Jagran cited police sources as saying Mohit had an alleged extramarital affair with Ramu’s wife. Three days before the murder, a dispute had erupted between the two families over the matter. Following the argument, Mohit forbade his children from visiting Ramu’s house.  

Despite his warnings, Tani continued to visit the neighbour’s home to play. Her defiance reportedly enraged Mohit, leading to the brutal killing.  

Police are working to establish the exact circumstances of the crime, particularly how the child’s body was mutilated. ASP Pravin Ranjan Singh commended the efforts of the investigation teams, stating that over 100 people were questioned during the probe.  

Authorities continue to search for the missing body parts with the help of drones and forensic experts. Meanwhile, Mohit remains in police custody as investigations progress.
