Two Killed In Bomb Blast Amid Gang Clashes In Bengal's Birbhum

According to police sources, the bomb explosion occurred during a fierce clash between the two factions.

At least two people were killed in a bomb blast late Friday night in Hatia village, located in Labhpur block of West Bengal’s Birbhum district, police officials confirmed on Saturday. The explosion is believed to be the result of escalating violence between two rival gangs allegedly involved in criminal activities and vying for local dominance.

According to police sources, the bomb explosion occurred during a fierce clash between the two factions. Tensions had been building throughout the day as the rival groups, long known to be embroiled in violent confrontations, engaged in a series of skirmishes. The violence culminated in the late-night explosion, which left two dead and several others reportedly injured, although police have not confirmed the number of casualties beyond the fatalities.

Birbhum Superintendent of Police Amandeep verified the deaths and stated that a formal investigation is currently underway. The identities of the deceased have not yet been made public.

Local Claims Link Victims To TMC

While the police remain tight-lipped about the victims' identities, local villagers claim both individuals were associated with the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC). This has yet to be verified by officials.

Eyewitnesses from the village also allege that several others sustained injuries in the blast, but law enforcement authorities are withholding details amid ongoing investigations and heightened security in the area.

Hatia village has a well-documented history of gang-related violence. The feuding groups are said to be led by Sheikh Mainuddin and his associate Sheikh Mustafi on one side, and Sheikh Munir on the opposing side. All three have allegedly been involved in the illegal production of counterfeit coins aimed at deceiving collectors.

Locals report that Sheikh Munir had recently asserted dominance in the area, prompting Mainuddin and Mustafi to retreat. Their attempt to re-enter Hatia on Friday afternoon led to renewed clashes with Munir’s group. The conflict intensified through the day and culminated in a deadly confrontation late at night, when Mainuddin and Mustafi allegedly returned with weapons and crude bombs.

One such bomb stockpile reportedly exploded during the clash, resulting in the fatalities.

Police Maintain Tight Security, Investigation Continues

Police have cordoned off the area and are maintaining a heavy presence in Hatia village to prevent further violence. The situation remains tense, and a forensic team is expected to visit the site to determine the exact cause of the blast.

Authorities have urged locals to remain calm while the investigation progresses. No arrests have been reported so far.
