Twist In Pune Rape Case: Cops Say Detained Suspect Was Techie's Friend, She Typed Threat Herself

Earlier today, police detained an unidentified man in connection with the alleged sexual assault of an IT professional at her flat in Pune. He has now turned out to be her friend.

A shocking revelation has been made by cops in the alleged rape of a 22-year-old IT professional in Pune. The Pune police on Friday said that the suspect detained in connection with the case earlier today was not a stranger to the woman, but her friend.

Police commissioner Amitesh Kumar also said that it was the woman herself who took a selfie with him and typed a threat message in her phone, news agency PTI reported. "They know each other for a couple of years and belong to the same community," he said.

Earlier, the woman had claimed that a man forcefully entered her flat in Kondhwa area on Wednesday when she was alone. She told the police that he posed as a courier delivery agent to gain entry into her flat and later forced himself on her.

She said she had passed out and regained consciousness only after an hour, and that the man had gone by then.

No Chemical Spray Used To Make Woman Unconscious

The techie also told the cops that before leaving her flat, the accused clicked a selfie, in which her back and part of his face were visible, using her phone. She claimed that he left a message warning her that he would release the pictures on social media if she reported the incident, PTI reported.

However, the detention of a man, suspected to be the accused, has brought a twist to the case. It has now turned out that the man was not a delivery agent, but a highly qualified professional.

The police have also found out that no chemical spray had been used to make her unconscious, as suspected earlier, Kumar said.

"We are still ascertaining why the victim made allegations of rape and it is still under investigation as the girl's mental state is not good at present," the commissioner told PTI, adding that the rape part of the case is still under investigation.
