Tourism Activities Suspended In Pahalgam After Terror Attack

Following the Pulwama attack, Jammu and Kashmir administration has suspended all trekking activities until further notice.

Pahalgam Terror Attack: Following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, trekking activities in Jammu and Kashmir have been suspended until further notice. Local authorities have already stopped the movement of tourists and trekkers in the upper reaches, including Chandanwari, Aru, and Betaab Valley in Pahalgam. Authorities have clarified that all tourist activities and trekking in the upper reaches of Pahalgam are completely prohibited for the time being.

Thousands of people come to Jammu and Kashmir every year for trekking. Because of this, there used to be a large movement of tourists in these areas. The crowds increase during the summer season, as the snow melts and the trekking routes open up. This sudden halt is not only a setback for trekking enthusiasts, but is also creating a challenging situation for the local tourism industry. Local guides, porters, homestay owners and shopkeepers, who mainly depend on the trekking season, may also have to bear the economic impact of this decision.

Prohibition To Ensure Security

Following the Pahalgam terrorist attack on April 22, the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the CRPF, and the Army have jointly tightened security arrangements. Increased patrolling has been implemented in high-altitude areas and surveillance is being carried out using drones.

The local administration says that trekking activities will remain restricted until the situation returns to normal. Tourists have been advised to visit only authorised and safe areas and strictly follow the guidelines of the local authorities. Trekking permits have been suspended for the time being and previously issued permits have also been cancelled.

Twenty-six people died in the Pahalgam terrorist attack earlier this week. Following the attack, security agencies are on high alert. They have begun a search for the terrorists. In this connection, sketches of 3 terrorists have been released after their identification.

In addition, India has suspended the Indus Waters Treaty and revoked all Pakistani visas.
