Tennis Player Shot Dead By Father In Gurugram, Accused Arrested

In Gurugram, tennis player Radhika Yadav was fatally shot by her father, who has been arrested. The father allegedly used his licensed revolver and is accused of murder.

Radhika Yadav, a 25-year-old state-level tennis player, was allegedly shot dead by her father at their residence in the upscale Sushant Lok area on Thursday. Police reported that Yadav was fatally shot in the back while she was cooking on the first floor of their double-storeyed home. She died at the scene.

Her father, 49-year-old Deepak Yadav, has been arrested in connection with the shooting, and his licensed .32 bore pistol has been recovered by authorities, news agency PTI reported. The motive behind the tragic act remains unclear at this time.

According to officials, the father fired more than five bullets. At the time of the incident, Radhika, who represented Haryana in tennis, was in the kitchen on the first floor, while her mother was on the ground floor, PTI reported.

A police team swiftly arrived at the Sushant Lok-Phase 2, Sector 57 residence and took the body into custody. "We are questioning the family members. A probe is underway and the picture will be clear soon," stated Inspector Vinod Kumar, the Station House Officer (SHO) of the Sector 56 police station.

Police also noted that the arrested father is a resident of Wazirabad village. Further details are awaited as the investigation continues.

Obsession with Instagram Reels An Alleged Motive

Police are yet to confirm the exact sequence of events leading up to the shooting.

Preliminary reports suggest that the father was reportedly upset with his daughter’s frequent use of Instagram, particularly her ‘addiction to making reels’, as per NDTV's report. However, according to IANS, the incident arose from a dispute over her running a tennis academy.

Based on a complaint by the victim’s uncle, police have arrested the father, Deepak, and recovered the weapon. An FIR has been registered, and a detailed investigation is underway, Gurugram Police said.
