Telangana Govt Launches Statewide Caste Survey, Second Congress-Ruled State To Carry Out Exercise
Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar emphasised that the details would remain confidential, assuring that the survey is intended to promote fairness and justice for all sections of society.
The Telangana government’s extensive socio-economic, employment, political, and caste survey, which was part of an election promise made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, officially commenced on Wednesday. The survey is set to gather critical data on various socio-economic indicators with the aim of addressing disparities and ensuring equal opportunities for all citizens.
Training has been provided to the personnel responsible for conducting the survey which is expected to conclude by the end of this month. State Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, who inaugurated the survey at the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) office, urged citizens to cooperate and provide information to the enumerators without any hesitation, as per PTI. He emphasised that the details would remain confidential, assuring that the survey is intended to promote fairness and justice for all sections of society.
Telangana Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said, as per ANI, "It is a historic decision in the nation which has been started from the Telangana's Hyderabad. A door-to-door survey in the state has commenced today. Once the data is collected then research will be conducted on that data. Later the data will be used for the effective administration."
In support of the initiative, State IT Minister D Sridhar Babu highlighted that the survey would enable the government to develop targeted welfare and development plans for various social groups.
Rahul Gandhi, who participated in a meeting organised by Telangana Congress on November 5 to discuss the caste survey reiterated his full commitment to the implementation of a caste census in the state. He also expressed his vision of making Telangana a model for caste-based census in the country.
Gandhi acknowledged that there may be some initial challenges in the survey process but assured that any shortcomings would be addressed promptly.
Additionally, the state government has appointed a one-man commission led by retired IAS officer Busani Venkateshwara Rao.
