Security Beefed Up In Jharkhand's Hazaribagh After Stone Pelting During Ram Navami Procession

A clash broke out at the Jhanda Chowk in Hazaribagh during the Mangala procession, which is part of the Ram Navami celebrations. Mild stone pelting and vandalism were reported during the clashes.

Security was tightened in Jharkhand's Hazaribagh area after clashes broke out during the 'Mangala' procession on Tuesday night. The situation is said to be under control now.

A clash broke out at the Jhanda Chowk in Hazaribagh during the procession, which is part of the Ram Navami celebrations. Mild stone pelting and vandalism were reported during the clashes, prompting police to use force to bring the situation under control.

The incident took place near Jama Masjid in the Sadar Police Station area after clashes broke out over alleged objectionable slogans, news agency IANS reported.

According to a report by the Times Of India, an altercation took place when one group played certain songs during the procession, which the second group objected to. However, the situation was stopped from further escalation after the security forces reached the spot immediately and took control of the clashes.

"As of now, the situation is peaceful and under control. Adequate forces have been deployed at the spot," the report quoted Deputy Commissioner of Hazaribagh, Nancy Sahay, as saying.

In another similar incident, a clash broke out in Hazaribagh's Ichak block during Mahashivratri festivities over the alleged installation of a loudspeaker and saffron flags on an iron pole. Several people were injured and vehicles were charred during the violent clashes between the members of two communities.

Ichak Police Station in-charge Santosh Kumar told TOI that the revellers were fixing a loudspeaker facing a government-run school for minorities at Dumraon village, which was near a place of worship.

"We held meeting with representatives of the two communities to reach an understanding in which it was agreed that the loudspeaker would be removed from the pole. But a section of mob today objected, leading to the clash," he said.
