Bihar Youth 'Kidnapped' A Year Ago Returns To Nalanda Home, 'Kidnapper' Rots In Jail
Gaurav Kumar, who was accused of temple theft in Nalanda's Begampur, fled to Delhi. The police failed to conduct a thorough inquiry and jailed an innocent man for a kidnapping that never happened.

Bihar News: A case of another botched police investigation has come to light in Nalanda, Bihar. The brunt of the negligent 'investigation' has resulted in the loss of a whole year from a person's life as he spent the days in jail.
The SC-ST police station arrested a man and sent him to jail in an abduction case without conducting a proper investigation. Almost a year later, the young man, for whose 'kidnapping' the police had arrested the man, returned to his village, leaving everyone shocked. The police were also stunned when the young man walked into the police station. He then explained that he had not been abducted but had gone to Delhi to work.
How The Police Concluded It Was A Case Of Kidnapping
The incident dates back to February 28, 2024, when a crown was stolen from a temple in Begampur village under the Nalanda police station. The suspicion fell on Bhola Manjhi's son, Gaurav Kumar and the angry villagers beat him up.
A few days later, Gaurav went "missing". On March 6, Gaurav's mother, Kosum Devi, filed a case at the SC-ST police station, accusing Sanjay Singh, Monu Mahto, and Chandan Pandey of abducting her son after assaulting him. The police arrested Sanjay Singh and sent him to jail.
Youth Fled To Delhi Due To Fear
Gaurav returned after almost a year on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, and explained that he had gone to Delhi of his own accord to look for work. He said he went to Delhi because he was scared of certain people as he had received death threats.
Fearing for his life, he went to Delhi and started working as a labourer. Meanwhile, Sanjay Singh, who is in jail, has not yet been granted bail. He has been in prison for the past six months.
Allegations Of Police Negligence
Following Gaurav's return, Sanjay Singh's family members are accusing the police of negligence. They claim that if the police had investigated properly, an innocent person would not have been imprisoned.
The SC-ST police station in-charge, Jitendra Kumar, said that Gaurav Kumar's statement is being recorded in court and further action will be taken as per the court's instructions.
