Saif Ali Khan Attack Suspect Says 'I Have Committed No Crime' In Bail Plea

In the petition, filed through his advocate Ajay Gawali, Shehzad has claimed that he has "committed no crime" and that the case filed against him is "fabricated".

Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan's alleged attacker, Shariful Islam Shehzad, has filed a bail petition in the Mumbai Sessions Court, claiming that he did not commit the crime and that the case filed against him is "fabricated".

In the petition, filed through his advocate Ajay Gawali, Shehzad has claimed that he has "committed no crime". Shehzad has been accused of attacking Khan during his theft attempt at the Bollywood actor's Bandra home on January 16. He is also accused of attacking Khan's staff member with a wooden weapon and a hexa blade during his robbery bid.

The case is currently being heard in the Bandra Magistrate Court but falls under the jurisdiction of the Sessions Court. The case will be transferred to the Sessions Court after the police file a charge sheet. The police are yet to submit the charge sheet in the case.

The petition argues that the FIR is "false" and was registered improperly. It also asserts that Shehzad has fully cooperated with the investigation.

His advocate further stated that the police already possess all necessary evidence, and that the accused is in no position to tamper with the case or influence witnesses in any way.

Khan had sustained serious injuries in the attack with a part of the sharp weapon lodged in his back. He underwent several surgeries and had to spend five days in the hospital before his discharge on January 21.

The case against Shehzad was filed by Khan's staff member, Elima Philip.

The bail plea also argues that Shehzad's continued detention does not serve any purpose beyond pre-trial punishment. "The applicant has co-operated with the investigation. Therefore, no useful purpose will be served by detaining him further in custody, save and except pre-trial punishment," the plea states.

The court is expected to hear Shehzad's bail plea soon.
