RG Kar Case: Sandip Ghosh Slapped Outside Kolkata Court. VIDEO

RG Kar News Today: Former RG Kar Medical College principal Sandip Ghosh, who was arrested on Monday, was slapped outside the Alipor Court in Kolkata on Tuesday.

RG Kar News Today: The CBI on Monday arrested its former principal Sandip Ghosh, his additional security guard Afsar Ali, and two others named Biplab Singha and Suman Hazra in the RG Kar Medical College corruption case. On Tuesday, they were presented before the Alipore court in Kolkata. However, as Sandip Ghosh made his way into the courtroom, a large crowd, including lawyers, gheraoed him and shouted slogans of "chor, chor [thief, thief]". On his way out of the court, the crowd attacked him.

Lawyers staged a protest inside the courtroom as well according to ABP Ananda. As Sandip Ghosh and the co-accused were leaving the courtroom, the situation became even more tense as a massive crowd gheraoed him. CBI officials and CISF personnel struggled to get them to the car.

Amid the chaos, one person managed to get close to Sandip Ghosh and landed a slap on him.

Who Are The Ones Arrested With Sandip Ghosh?

After almost 150 hours of interrogation, former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital Sandip Ghosh was arrested on Monday, September 2. Along with him, his additional bodyguard Afsar Ali, and two medicine suppliers — Biplab Singha and Suman Hazra — were arrested. Singha and Hazra are reportedly related to him.

The three other accused have sought bail. However, Sandip Ghosh has reportedly refrained from seeking bail.

Sandip Ghosh Suspended From Bengal Health Department

The West Bengal Health Department on Tuesday issued a letter to suspend Sandip Ghosh in connection with the ongoing investigation into the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital corruption case. He was also removed from the West Bengal Medical Council and its associated panels, including the ethics committee.

The investigation into the case started after former RG Kar MCH deputy superintendent Dr Akhtar Ali called for an Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigation in the alleged corruption. The Calcutta High Court, however, asked the CBI to probe the case as the agency was already investigating the Kolkata doctor's death.

In the FIR registered on the Calcutta High Court's directions, the CBI charged Ghosh and three Kolkata-based private entities—Ma Tara Traders, Eshan Cafe, and Khama Louha—under sections related to criminal conspiracy, cheating, and provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
