Car Collides With Container On Ajmer Highway As Driver Falls Asleep, Mahant Dies

During the incident, the impact was so severe that the car was completely wrecked. Mahant Brahmpuri, also known as Gopal Gupta, aged 63, lost his life on the spot. 

A speeding Swift car collided with a container on NH-79 in Rajasthan, killing a Mahant and injuring the driver on Thursday.

An accident occurred on Thursday morning (February 20) on the Ajmer-Bhilwara National Highway (NH-79) in the Bhilwara district of Rajasthan after a speeding Swift car collided with a container ahead. During the incident, a Mahant inside the vehicle died immediately and the driver sustained serious injuries. And, the container driver fled the scene.

Reacting to the incident, Head Constable, Hanuman Prasad, of Mandal police station stated that the accident took place around 9:30 AM near Raisinghpura. The Swift car, traveling from Jaisalmer to Mandsaur, was being driven by Ashok (son of Hemraj Vaishnav, resident of Jaisalmer), who dozed off at the wheel, causing the vehicle to crash into the container. The impact was so severe that the car was completely wrecked. Mahant Brahmpuri, also known as Gopal Gupta, aged 63, lost his life on the spot. 

Deceased Body Sent For Post-Mortam

Upon receiving information, the Mandal police reached the site and took possession of the body, which was sent to the sub-district hospital. The injured driver, Ashok, remains in critical condition and has been admitted for treatment. Meanwhile, the body has been placed in the mortuary, and the family has been informed. The post-mortem will be conducted once the relatives arrive.  

The Mahant's nephew, Akhilesh Gupta, shared that the family originally hails from the Shamsabad area of Agra. At the age of 12, Mahant Brahmpuri renounced his home and began living with ascetics. He resided at the Baba Devpuri Yoga Ashram Hanuman Temple near Jaisalmer Railway Station.  

Injured driver Ashok stated that they were en route from Jaisalmer to Mandsaur. Due to prolonged driving, he dozed off near Raisinghpura, causing the car to crash into the container. The collision was so intense that the car was completely shattered. Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are actively searching for the absconding container driver.
