Rain Mayhem In Maharashtra: 4 Dead In Mumbai, 3 In Thane; Schools, Colleges Closed As IMD Issues 'Red' Alert
Heavy rainfall in Mumbai has caused at least four fatalities, with one drowning and three struck by lightning.
At least four people have been killed in Mumbai amid incessant rains that have been lashing the city since Wednesday. The India Meteorological Department issued a red alert for the city predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall till 8:30 am on Thursday.
A 45-year-old woman was reported dead after she drowned in an overflowing nullah in suburban Andheri on Wednesday night. She was taken to Cooper Hospital where she was declared brought dead.
The victim, identified as Vimal Anil Gaikwad and the incident took place at around 9:20 pm near gate no. 8 of MIDC Andheri East.

A woman from Raigad died after drowning in a waterfall while 2 people were killed in a lightning strike in Kalyan, reported the Times of India.
Three persons were killed in separate incidents of lightning strikes in Thane district over the last 24 hours ending Wednesday evening, said officials, reported PTI.
A bolt from the sky struck a house in Shirgaon in Murbad taluka near Kalyan on Tuesday killing Parshu Pawar (42). A man and a woman working in a quarry at Kamba in Kalyan taluka were killed when lightning struck them, a District Disaster Control Room official said.

A case of accidental death has been registered by the police.
In view of the inclement weather conditions, schools and colleges have been ordered to close on Thursday. Maharashtra School Education Minister and the guardian minister for Mumbai, Deepak Kesarkar declared a holiday for schools and colleges. "All schools and colleges under BMC's jurisdiction will remain closed on Thursday, considering the safety of the students," the BMC stated.
The weather department has predicated a 'generally cloudy sky with heavy rain' for the city.
