Bihar: Porter Crushed Between Train Carriages During Shunting Op At Barauni Station, Driver 'Flees Scene'
The train driver reportedly left the train and fled without attempting to reverse or prevent the accident, leading to Rao being struck and fatally crushed by the moving engine.
A railway worker lost his life allegedly while shunting operation at Barauni Junction in the Begusarai district of Bihar on Saturday, police said. The victim identified as, Amar Kumar Rao, was a porter who was working at the station under the Sonpur Railway Division.
According to a report by NDTV, Rao died while performing his duties on platform 5 of Barauni Junction. As per the railway sources, the accident took place when he was attempting to open the coupling of the Lucknow-Barauni Express (No: 15204) that arrived from Lucknow Junction. Unexpectedly, the train reversed, resulting in him trapping between the carriages.
Soon after the incident, onlookers raised the alarm. The train driver reportedly left the train and fled without attempting to reverse or prevent the accident, leading to Rao being struck and fatally crushed by the moving engine.
Footage from the scene shows Rao trapped between two train coaches while onlookers capture photos on their mobile phones. Railway authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident.
Four Railway Contract Workers Killed By Express Train In Kerala
In a separate incident, four railway contract workers lost their lives when an express train struck them near Shornur in the Palakkad district of Kerala on Saturday (November 2).
The incident took place around 3 p.m. when the Thiruvananthapuram-bound Kerala Express collided with the sanitation workers as they were clearing garbage. Among the victims were two men and two women.
"The workers may not have noticed the approaching train, which resulted in the accident, but further investigations are underway," India Today quoted an officer from the Shornur Railway Police as saying.
