Punjab Men Form Human Bridge To Rescue 35 Children Stranded After Road Cave-In: WATCH

Heavy rains caused a road collapse in Malleyan, Punjab, stranding 35 schoolchildren. Sukhbinder Singh and Gagandeep Singh heroically formed a human bridge to help people.

In a remarkable display of courage and quick thinking, two men from Punjab’s Moga district saved 35 schoolchildren who were stranded after a road caved in due to heavy rainfall. Their innovative ‘jugaad’ method — forming a human bridge to help the children cross — is now being honoured by the Malleyan village panchayat.

Heavy Rain Leads to Road Collapse and Stranded Children

Heavy rainfall flooded fields in Malleyan village, forcing schools to declare a holiday at around 10 a.m. As students were returning home, an announcement at the local Gurudwara informed villagers that a road had caved in, leaving at least 35 children stranded on the other side.

Sukhbinder and Gagandeep’s Quick Thinking Saves the Day

On hearing the announcement, Sukhbinder Singh and Gagandeep Singh, along with other villagers, rushed to the spot to help. A video from the scene showed water flowing through the caved portion at waist height, with a gap of nearly five feet between the two ends of the road.

Sukhbinder came up with an idea — forming a human bridge — and Gagandeep quickly agreed to help. Their brave act allowed all 35 children and at least 10 other people to cross safely.

Panchayat Honours the Brave Duo

Village panchayat member Ingres Singh shared that Gagandeep had initially gone to pick up his nephew along with other parents when the situation unfolded. “Sukhbinder pitched the idea, and the other man decided to support,” he said, praising their presence of mind.

Villagers Demand Road Repairs

The panchayat has criticised the lack of action by authorities. “It is unfortunate that till now neither the Ludhiana district administration nor the Rasulpur Gram Panchayat has taken any initiative to repair the road which connects Malleyan and Rasulpur villages and is the only route for people to go to work and for children to go to school,” said Ingres Singh.

Villagers have appealed to the state government and the Ludhiana administration to repair the road immediately.
