Punjab Cops 'Thrash Army Officer, Son Over Parking Dispute' – WATCH

An Army officer and his son were thrashed by Punjab police, over a parking dispute vehicle.

An Army Officer and his son were allegedly thrashed by cops over a parking dispute in Punjab's Patiala. The incident which was caught on CCTV occurred outside a roadside eatery in Patiala on March 13.

According to a report by NDTV, the assault happened after an argument broke out when the police personnel in civilian clothes asked the Army Officer to move his vehicle. When Colonel Pushpinder Bath objected to the tone of their voice and then the cops allegedly punched and kicked the officer. When the son tried to intervene, the cops allegedly also assaulted him. The report says that the cops also used baseball bats to attack the Officer.

The CCTV footage shows the attacker pulling a person out of the car and then kicking and punching the person.

Father Son Duo Under Treatment

A report by India Today, says that both the Army Officer and his son are undergoing treatment at Rajendra Hospital in Patiala. As per the report, the son says that when he tried to intervene the cops beat them up with ‘sticks, rods and baseball bats’. He also claimed that they had fainted and when they woke up the cops were still beating them.

He also said that the attackers became more aggressive when he pointed out that they were drunk. According to him, the assault lasted for 45 minutes.

The family of the Officer said that despite the CCTV footage, initially no action was taken by the police.

After repeated complaints, the police suspended the accused cops. Senior police officer Dr Nanak Singh said that 12 cops have been suspended and that a departmental inquiry has been ordered against them. He added that the inquiry will be completed in 45 days.

"Respect for the army is our priority. There have always been cordial relations between the police and the local army unit and we will ensure strict action against those guilty... 12 police personnel have been suspended for departmental inquiry, which will be time-bound and completed within 45 days," SSP Nanak Singh
