WATCH: Punjab CM Mocks PM Modi’s 5-Nation Visit, Says ‘Magnesia, Galveaisa Pata Nahi Kahan Kahan...’

Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann mocked PM Modi's international trips, inventing country names to suggest obscure destinations and small populations awarding Modi.

Punjab Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Bhagwant Mann on Thursday took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent international visits, using made-up country names to sarcastically comment on what he described as “obscure” destinations. “PM has gone somewhere. I think it is Ghana. He is going to be back and he is welcome. God knows which countries he keeps visiting, ‘Magnesia’, ‘Galveaisa’, ‘Tarvesia’,” Mann said while speaking to reporters.

Mocking the scale and impact of such visits, Mann added, “He does not stay in a country with 140 crore people. He is visiting countries where the population is 10,000 and he is getting the ‘highest awards’ there.”

In a lighter vein that drew laughter from the audience, he said, “Here, 10,000 people gather to watch a JCB… What has he gotten into!”

Prime Minister Modi returned to India on Thursday following a five-nation diplomatic tour that included Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia.

‘One Nation, One Husband?’: When Bhagwant Mann’s Remarks On PM Modi Drew BJP's Ire

In another contentious remark made earlier in June, Mann took aim at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over its reported campaign strategy, particularly criticising the use of “sindoor” as a symbolic gesture.

“BJP is seeking votes in the name of Operation Sindoor. These people have turned ‘sindoor’ into a joke. They are sending sindoor to every home. Will you now apply ‘sindoor’ in (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi’s name? Is this a ‘one nation, one husband’ scheme?” he asked.

The remark came as reports claimed the BJP would send sindoor to homes to mark the success of Operation Sindoor. Later, the party dismissed the same.

Reacting strongly to Mann’s statements, BJP leaders condemned the remarks as insensitive and disrespectful to the Indian armed forces and the dignity of war widows.

BJP Punjab spokesperson Pritpal Singh Baliawal posted the video of the comments on X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, “Bhagwant Mann crosses all limits! Mocking Operation Sindoor, he shamelessly asks, ‘Will you wear sindoor in Modi’s name? Is this One Nation, One Husband?’”

BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari also denounced Mann’s comments, calling them “anti-India in spirit.”

“Shameful! Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann ridicules Operation Sindoor. Once again, the opposition shows its true face — Disrespecting our armed forces and belittling a successful military operation. If this isn’t anti-India in spirit, then what is?” he stated.
