'Some People See Secularism At Risk When...': PM Modi Hails Ahilyabai Holkar's Reforms In Bhopal

PM Modi addressed the 'Mahila Sashaktikaran Maha Sammelan’ event in Bhopal to mark Ahilyabai Holkar's 300th birth anniversary, where he praised her for her reforms, especially for women empowerment.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday praised legendary queen Ahilyabai Holkar, saying that people today see secularism as being at risk and believe that it goes against our religion when there is a discussion on the age of marriage for women, whereas she deeply thought about the daughters of the country and worked for their development.

At the ‘Mahila Sashaktikaran Maha Sammelan’ event in Bhopal to mark Ahilyabai Holkar's 300th birth anniversary, PM Modi said: "Devi Ahilyabai will always be remembered for many great social reforms. Today, when we discuss the age of marriage for daughters, some people see secularism as being at risk and believe it goes against our religion. But Devi Ahilyabai, a true symbol of maternal strength, even back then thought deeply about the appropriate age for daughters' marriage. Although she was married at a young age herself, she knew exactly what path was right for the development of daughters."

Ahilyabai Holkar was the revered queen of the Holkar dynasty in the 18th-century Malwa. She is remembered for her exceptional governance, commitment to social welfare, and contributions towards culture and spirituality.

"If you visit Kashi Vishwanath Mahadev today, you will also find a statue of Devi Ahilyabai there. She adopted an excellent model of governance that prioritized the poor and the marginalized. To promote employment and entrepreneurship, she launched numerous schemes. She encouraged agriculture, forest-based cottage industries, and handicrafts. To boost farming, she developed a network of small canals imagine, this was three hundred years ago," he added, as he continued to praise Ahilyabai Holkar for the initiatives taken by her for the development of other sectors.

PM Modi also released a commemorative postal stamp and Rs 300 coin to mark Ahilyabai Holkar’s 300th birth anniversary at the event.
