Odisha Announces 'Orange Tan' Makeover For All Govt School Buildings. Check Directive

The new colour code will be implemented during construction, repair, and renovation works and will supersede all previous instructions regarding school building colour codes.

The Odisha government has announced its decision to change the colour of all government school buildings across the state, including the PM SHRI schools, an official statement issued on March 4 read.

The Odisha School Education Programme Authority (OSEPA), in a letter to all the Collectors-cum-Chairman of Samagra Shiksha, directed them to adopt the uniform colour code of 'orange tan' for all the government schools in the state.

The new colour code will be implemented during construction, repair, and renovation works and will supersede all previous instructions regarding school building colour codes.

"It is requested to issue suitable instructions to concerned field functionaries for adoption of the approved colour code in all Govt. Schools, including PM SHRI schools, during construction, repair & renovation works. This order would be in supersession of all previous instructions related to colour code of school buildings," the letter issued by OSEPA director Ananya Das noted.

BJD Criticises State Govt's Decision

With this development, the colour of the government school buildings will be changed to orange from the previous green and white, which was done by the previous BJD government. With the new change, the colour of official buildings will have light orange frost with an orange-tan border.

The development comes after the state government changed the colour of uniforms for students of all secondary schools. The colour of the school uniforms was changed  from white and green to light brown and maroon under the Mukhyamantri Chhatra Chhatri Paridhan Yojana.

Under the former BJD-led government, the government school buildings and other official buildings had ben painted in green. Two of the biggest public hospitals in the state namely Capital Hospital and SCB Medical College and Hospital, wear also painted in green colour.

BJD has criticised the state government of not focusing on development work and instead changing colours of official buildings and names of schemes.

"The BJP govt is more focused on changing colours and names rather than addressing real issues in education, such as infrastructure improvement and teacher shortage. By taking these cosmetic steps, the govt is wasting resources. At least they should try something new and innovative for the state's growth," Times of India quoted BJD spokesperson Lenin Mohanty as saying.
