Noida: GNIDA Directs RWAs And Feeders To Provide Stray Dog Data Amid Surge in Bite Cases

GNIDA is collecting data on stray dog populations and vaccination status from local communities to minimize resident-animal lover conflicts.

The Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) has asked the RWAs, AOAs, society managements, and animal feeders to gather data and submit reports on the stray dog populations, sterilisation, and the status of vaccination within their localities. According to the TOI report, the reports are to be submitted within a month.

The GNIDA officials on Saturday said that the directive was issued to minimise the conflicts between the residents and the animal lovers. The authority also said that the residents and the animal feeders should resolve the disagreements on their own, but if they fail to do so, a committee will be formed by GNIDA to mediate between the two sides.

The committee will include the chief veterinary officer, police officials, representatives of the district animal cruelty prevention panel or the state animal welfare board, and non-profits.

According to the TOI report, the decision by the committee on the dispute will be considered final. The authority also said that it will launch a dedicated helpline to deal with any such conflicts and get medical attention for the stray dogs.

GNIDA will also tie up with the non profits organisation for sterilisation and vaccination, and it will reimburse the organisations.

The recent development comes after the cases of dog bites have seen a major increase in one year. According to the health department data, the number of dog bite cases recorded in government hospitals and rabies centres across the city jumped 31 percent.

According to TOI report, a majority of cases in 2024—85% (114,927)—were that of stray dog bites, but another 20,860 were incidents related to pet dogs. Most of the cases of dog bites in Noida come from areas such as Bhangel, Sector 130, Haldoni, Harila, Sectors 8, 9, 45, Sadarpur Colony, JJ Colony, and Khoda.
