Karnataka: BJP MLA Munirathna, 6 Others Booked In Alleged Rape, Criminal Intimidation

According to Karnataka police, the incident reportedly took place at a resort located within the jurisdiction of the Kaggalipura police station.

A case has been registered against Karnataka BJP MLA Munirathna and six others over allegations of raping a woman at a private resort near Bengaluru. The Karnataka Police confirmed that a case of rape, honey trapping and sexual harassment has been filed against Munirathna at the Kaggalipura police station in Ramanagara district.

Apart from the MLA, the six other individuals who are facing FIR include Vijay Kumar, Sudhakara, Kiran Kumar, Lohit Gowda, Manjunath and Loki. 

According to the police, the incident reportedly took place at a resort located within the jurisdiction of the Kaggalipura police station. The FIR includes Munirathna and six other individuals as the accused. The investigation into the matter is ongoing, with further details yet to be disclosed by the authorities.

The First Information Report (FIR) was registered under Sections 354A, 354C, 376, 506, 504, 120(b), 149, 384, 406, 308 of Indian Penal Code.

"We received a complaint on Wednesday night and based on it, we have registered case against seven people, including the BJP MLA under various sections for rape by public servant, sexual harassment, criminal intimidation, criminal conspiracy, voyeurism, intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace, Information Technology Act, and others," a senior police officer said, as per PTI.

On September 15, he was placed in two-day police custody following his arrest on allegations of threatening a contractor and using casteist slurs against him. These charges had already put the Rajarajeshwari Nagar MLA under scrutiny. 

The FIR on Wednesday was the third case registered against him. 

The legal troubles for BJP leaders in Karnataka don’t end with Munirathna. Meanwhile, Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje and BJP Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly R. Ashok were also booked on charges of allegedly spreading false information on social media concerning the Nagamangala riot.
