15-Day Traffic Restriction In Mumbai From May 26. Check Affected Routes

This move is expected to streamline the influx of vehicles, especially those transporting goats to the Deonar slaughterhouse, one of the largest in the country.

Mumbai Traffic Advisory: The Mumbai Traffic Police has announced traffic restrictions for 15 days in parts of the city in view of Bakri Eid. The city will witness round-the-clock movement restrictions on several roads in Mankhurd, Govandi, and nearby areas starting May 26 through June 9.

This move is expected to streamline the influx of vehicles, especially those transporting goats to the Deonar slaughterhouse, one of the largest in the country.

Routes Impacted by Restrictions

The official notification highlights that vehicles involved in Bakri Eid-related transport, particularly those carrying livestock, will primarily use Shivaji Nagar Junction, Bainganwadi Junction, and IOC Junction along the Mankhurd-Ghatkopar Link Road. To minimise disruption, traffic for another heavy and light vehicle, excluding BEST buses and emergency services, will be restricted 24x7 on several arterial routes.

The list of impacted roads includes:

  • Vaman Tukaram Patil Marg (from Panjarapol Junction to Govandi Railway Station near Jhatka Gate)
  • Gautam Nagar Road (from Shivaji Nagar Junction to Govandi Station Road)
  • Peripheri Road (Eris Junction to Govandi Station Road)
  • Deonar/Govandi Station Road (from Tanaji Malusare Chowk to Jhatka Gate)

In some instances, one-way traffic may be implemented, particularly from Tanaji Malusare Chowk to Govandi Station and Jhatka Gate, to further reduce bottlenecks.

Check Alternate Routes

To maintain normal vehicular flow, drivers are encouraged to take alternate roads such as the Ghatkopar-Mankhurd Link Road and V.N. Purav Marg. These detours aim to ease the strain on areas heavily trafficked due to Eid preparations.

No-Parking Zones Enforced

Key thoroughfares have also been designated as no-parking zones during this period. These include:

Peripheri Road

Govandi Station Road

Gautam Nagar Road

Madhukar Kadam Road

Vaman Tukaram Patil Marg, including the bridge near Govandi Station

The notification, issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Eastern Suburbs), makes it clear that these steps are critical to prevent gridlocks and ensure safe and efficient movement throughout the festive days.

This proactive planning by city officials underscores the importance of public cooperation and traffic discipline as Mumbai gears up for one of its most significant religious events.
