Good News Mumbaikars! New Elevated Road To Ease Traffic For Parel, Dadar Residents
Mumbai plans a six-lane elevated road connecting Senapati Bapat Marg to Haji Ali's coastal road access. Costing Rs 250-300 crore, it aims to reduce travel time from central Mumbai by 30 minutes.

Mumbai News: In a bid to ease Mumbai’s traffic congestion, a new six-lane elevated road has been proposed to connect Senapati Bapat Marg near Phoenix Mills and Kamla Mills to Lala Lajpatrai Road at Haji Ali, which already houses entry and exit points to the coastal road, Times of India has reported.
The elevated corridor, running approximately 1.5 km, will skirt the edge of Mahalaxmi Racecourse and pass near the NSCI Dome. It will start near the E Moses Road end of Senapati Bapat Marg and extend up to the coastal road access at Haji Ali.
Faster Access From Central Mumbai
Once completed, the new route will allow commuters from busy central areas like Parel, Dadar, Matunga, and Mahim to reach the coastal road near Haji Ali within minutes, cutting down current travel times by up to 30 minutes during peak hours. At present, drivers from both north and south Mumbai must take longer routes via Worli or Tardeo.
Officials said the project will require no land acquisition and will not disrupt current traffic flows during construction. The proposed alignment passes through open land adjacent to the racecourse and stadiums, avoiding residential or commercial displacement.
Estimated Cost For New Mumbai Road
The project is expected to cost between Rs 250–300 crore. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s office, along with the Public Works Department (PWD), presented the proposal. Shinde emphasised that the elevated link is not merely infrastructure, but part of a broader vision to make Mumbai “traffic jam-free.”
Government departments have reportedly responded favourably, given the project’s minimal environmental and social impact.
