Mumbai: NCB Seizes 5 Kg Mephedrone Worth Rs 10 Crore, 1 Drug Trafficker Arrested
The accused had allegedly sourced the mephedrone from Hyderabad for distribution in Mumbai and its suburbs. He has been arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Mumbai: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) busted a drug trafficking racket in Central Mumbai and seized five kilograms of mephedrone worth Rs 10 crore. The man who was caught with the drugs was also arrested, an official told news agency PTI on Friday.
The official said that the NCB acted after receiving a tip-off, following which its Mumbai zonal unit apprehended the accused, M S Shaikh, with the contraband in Sion on July 18.
The accused is a resident of Andheri and had sourced the mephedrone from Hyderabad to distribute it in Mumbai and its suburbs.
Investigations into the matter have revealed that the accused was involved in inter-state trafficking of mephedrone, the official said, adding that "the seized substance is worth Rs 10 crore."
Shaikh was arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

NCB Arrests Kingpin Of Rs 50 Cr Drug Smuggling Racket
In a breakthrough in its drug smuggling probe, NCB arrested Sufiyan Yakub Khan, the alleged kingpin in a case involving 31.5 kg of Mephedrone worth Rs 50 crore.
He had been on the run since the racket was busted in Sewree in June.
The case was unfolded after NCB officials acted on a specific intelligence and arrested a man named Musharaf Jan Mohammed in Nagpada area. Ten kg drugs were also seized from his possession.
The probe into the matter revealed the involvement of a Sewree resident, from whom the NCB team recovered 11 kg of MD. The scooter he seized to allegedly peddle the drugs was also seized.
It was then revealed that the MD was supplied to him by kingpin Khan, following which the NCB booked him for his alleged role in smuggling drugs.
