A 34-year-old man from Mumbai killed his three-month-old daughter after he forcefully threw her on the floor at their residence in Kurla. He was later arrested by the police.
According to police, the man got furious after his wife allegedly slapped their eldest daughter for refusing to eat. He allegedly picked up their infant daughter from his wife's lap and threw her on the floor, The Indian Express reported.
The accused, identified as Parvez Siddiqui, lived with his wife Saba, parents, three brothers, and their wives in LIG Colony in Kurla (West). He had three daughters aged five, two-and-a-half years, and three months.
The police also said that Parvez was unemployed and was dependent on his three brothers, who worked in a pharmaceutical company.
The incident took place on February 14, when Saba was feeding their eldest daughter Daniya in their bedroom. Parvez's brothers had left for work by then. Police said that Parvez was also in the room and his wife held their three-month-old daughter Afiya on her lap.
When the eldest daughter refused to eat, Saba lightly tapped her head, which enraged him. This started an argument between the couple during which Parvez allegedly abused his wife verbally and physically, the report said.
The couple continued to fight and went to the living room where other members of the family were also present. He kept assaulting his wife, following which he snatched the infant from her lap and forcefully threw her on the floor before leaving the house, Indian Express reported citing police officer.
When the accused man's mother picked up the 3-month-old child, she noticed that she was not responding. The family then rushed her to a private hospital nearby, but was declared dead on arrival.
The matter was reported to the police by hospital authorities, following which Saba recorded her statement. Based on this, a case of murder was registered against the man for killing his daughter.
A senior police officer told Indian Express that Parvez was traced and arrested from Kurla.
