Mumbai Breaks May Rainfall Records: Here's IMD's Forecast For City Next Week

In Mumbai, no rain is forecast for the coming week. The city received significant rainfall on May 26 and 27. May's rainfall broke records, marking the earliest monsoon onset in 75 years.

IMD said on Thursday that there is no forecast for rainfall in Mumbai over the coming week. Speaking to news agency PTI, IMD scientist Shubhangi Bhute said that the monsoon has officially set in in Mumbai and added that the city witnessed rainfall from May 24 to May 26, with the city receiving approximately 135 mm and 164 mm on May 26 and May 27. She also said that the rainfall on May 18 was due to a cyclone, not the monsoon.

According to the weather body, the daytime temperatures are likely to range between 24°C and 31°C. The southwest monsoon officially arrived in Mumbai on Monday, May 26, two weeks ahead of schedule. According to the weather body, this marks the earliest onset of the monsoon in the city in 75 years.

In May, Mumbai logged record-breaking rainfall, marking the early arrival of the southwest monsoon. Santa Cruz recorded 324 mm of rain, while Colaba surpassed its previous May record of 279.4 mm set in 1918, making it the wettest May day ever recorded there.
