The student was said to be under mental stress due to online betting and financial loss. Although he did not leave a suicide note, he left a whatsapp status in which he described online betting games as dangerous as drugs addiction, Amar Ujala reported citing police officer.
Police have started a probe into the case and are also investigating his financial transactions and mobile apps, the report said.
According to Rural ASP Rupesh Dwivedi, Rohit was a bright student and lived alone in his room. His friends have told the police that he used his phone frequently and often played mobile games. That's when he gradually got caught in online betting and lost lakhs of rupees in it. This brought him under immense stress as he was unable to recover from the huge loss, Amar Ujala reported.
The police are also attempting to find out whether he was threatened by someone or was under any pressure of debt. Meanwhile, Rohit's elder brother has ruled out suicide and called the case a murder, demanding a fair investigation.
