2.7 Magnitude Earthquake Hits UP's Meerut

A minor earthquake of magnitude 2.7 struck Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, at 8:44 am on Saturday.

An earthquake of magnitude 2.7 on the Richter Scale hit Uttar Pradesh's Meerut on Saturday. There were no immediate reports of any damage. More details awaited. According the National Centre for Seismology, the earthquake took place at 8:44 am at a depth of 5 kilometres with epicentre in Meerut.

The development comes three months after a 4.0 magnitude earthquake jolted people in Delhi out of sleep as strong tremors were felt across the national capital.

The epicentre of the quake that shook Delhi-NCR in the early hours of February 17, 2025, was located near Durgabai Deshmukh College of Special Education in south Delhi's Dhaula Kuan.

A loud sound accompanied the strong tremors that lasted for 35 seconds.

People rushed out of their houses in panic but there were no reports of any damage or casualties except for uprooting of a 25-year-old tree.
