The fire broke out at the Pollution Control Board office near 'Shankh Dwar' on the temple premises. The preliminary probe has revealed that the fire might have been caused by a blast in an inverter battery.
Fortunately, there were no casualties reported in the incident. For safety reasons, the entry of devotees was temporarily suspended but resumed once the fire was extinguished.

Collector Roshan Singh and SP Pradeep Sharma also reached the spot and reviewed the situation. Fire department officials and Mahakal police are investigating the exact cause behind the incident.

14 Priests Injured In A Fire At Mahakaleswar Temple On Holi
Last year, at least 14 priests were injured after a fire broke out at the Mahakaleshwar temple. The incident took place during bhasma aarti inside the sanctum sanctorum of the temple on the occassion of Holi in March, 2024.
According to reports citing eyewitnesses, the fire broke out as gulal was being thrown to celebrate Holi, and some of it fell on the puja thali that contained burning camphor. The fire spread after the camphor fell on the floor.
"Fourteen priests suffered burn injuries. Some are being treated in the district hospital here, while eight have sought treatment in Indore. A magisterial probe has been ordered. It will be conducted by Zila Panchayat CEO Mrinal Meena and Additional Collector Anukool Jain and a report will be submitted in three days," NDTV quoted an official as saying.
