Maharashtra Rains: Water Level Rises In Mumbai Lakes, IMD Issues 'Orange' Alert in 8 Districts. Check Forecast
The IMD has predicted moderate to heavy rainfall in Mumbai and Thane on Saturday.
Mumbai Weather Update: Several parts of Maharashtra, including Mumbai, have been reeling under heavy rainfall for the last few days. However, after two days of intense showers, Mumbai was largely rain-free on Friday.
After heavy and incessant downpours, the water levels in the seven lakes of Mumbai crossed the 70% mark on Friday, up 5% compared to the day before, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Pune, and Satara districts of Maharashtra for Saturday, indicating the possibility of heavy to very heavy showers. According to the weather office, an orange alert has also been issued for Chandrapur, Gondia, and Gadchiroli districts.
The districts with orange alert are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places. There is no orange alert for any district of Maharashtra from July 28 to 30, the IMD said.
The orange alert signifies a preparedness advisory for authorities due to the potential for heavy rainfall exceeding 115.6 mm and up to 204.4 mm within 24 hours, while the red alert is the most urgent form of alert, signalling rainfall exceeding 204.5 mm within 24 hours.
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for the financial capital and adjoining Thane district for Saturday, predicting moderate to heavy dowpour in isolated areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 30 degrees Celsius and 25 degrees Celsius, respectively.
In a post on X, the Mumbai-based Regional Meteorological Center, “Local forecast for Mumbai city and suburbs for the next 24 hours. Moderate to heavy rainfall in city and suburbs. Occasional gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph are very likely. Maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 30°C and 25°C.”.

Pune city and other parts of the western Maharashtra district, including Velha, Mulshi, Bhor talukas, and catchment areas of several dams, witnessed incessant rains on Thursday.
As far as Madhya Maharashtra is concerned, the weather office has issued a red alert for July 26 and 27, predicting an extremely heavy downpour in the region.
According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the financial capital's civic body, in the 24 hours ending at 8 am on Friday, Mumbai recorded 81 mm of rain, while its eastern and western suburbs received 80 mm and 90 mm of rain, respectively.
