Kolkata Rape Accused 'Mango' Mishra Turned College Union Room Into Bar, Harassed Women, Says Batchmate

The alleged rape of the 24-year-old woman was led by Mishra and assisted by two college seniors on the evening of June 25. The crime took place for over three hours at multiple locations inside the campus.

In the Kolkata law college rape case, a new and shocking revelation has emerged. According to a report by NDTV quoting his batchmate, accused Monojit Mishra had turned the union room into a bar and a "party" place. Mishra's batchmate said that he used to drink alcohol with his friends in the union room every evening. She also alleged that Mishra used to harass women.

Mango Mishra has been arrested for allegedly raping a 24-year-old student inside the college premises last month.

The accused, Mishra, used to threaten to shoot the college staff over every small issue, and he had once thrashed a security guard, her batchmate further alleged.

According to media reports, there are several cases against Mishra, who once held a position in the student union and was part of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress.

Police reconstruct crime scene with arrested men

On Friday, sleuths of the Kolkata Police took the four men arrested in connection with the gang rape of a student to South Calcutta Law College and reconstructed the crime scene, an officer said. The three prime accused—alumnus and contractual staff Monojit Mishra, current students Pramit Mukherjee and Zaib Ahmed—and security guard Pinaki Banerjee were taken to the college around 4:30 am, and it took around four hours to complete the process.

The alleged rape of the 24-year-old woman was led by Mishra and assisted by two college seniors on the evening of June 25. The crime took place for over three hours at multiple locations inside the campus, including the guard's room, the victim said in her complaint with the police. The investigation is currently being carried out by the Detective Department of the Kolkata Police. The medical examination, as well as the circumstantial evidence, corroborated the first-year student's allegation of being gang-raped. The security guard was accused of failing to carry out his responsibilities.
